Star Wars 7–9:

My small and awkward take on how I would have done Star Wars 7,8,9

The key in the Star Wars Universe is history repeating itself, and family tradgedy. So this is what the heart of the story should have been all along.

Leia staring out the window of a ship. A member of the rebellion tells her that it is time. She goes to the front of the ship. She nods and a laser beam is sent to an asteroid. She looks gloom as it blows up.

“He might be there” — The general says, referring to Kylo Ren (Ben Solo).

“Did I have a choice?” she says and returns back to her chambers.

We see Luke sensing Leia is sad, he sits by a fire and gets a flashback in the fire.

It’s a flashback of a Jedi academy. 5 year old Ben Solo and Rey Palpatine are playing. He is trying to get their attention. He is interrupted when Leia asks him to come inside the palace. She lets him know that Emperor Palpatine is still alive but ensures he is weak, but not powerless. Luke rubs his prosthetic arm. They both look concerned as they look down a balcony watching careless little Rey play with Ben.

Luke watches the fire again. Yet another flash comes to him.

He flashes back to Rey’s 8th birthday, and when her eyes glossed red and she used her lightsaber to threaten a teasing Ben. He realises he needs to wipe her memory, and send her away. Her parents feel grief, they don’t want to send away their only child but know it’s the right thing to do. They need to hide her where nobody would look, and Unkar Plutt is the answer. Rey’s parents are killed on the way by Palpatine’s minions who are trying to get hold of Rey.

Ben is saddened. He misses his best friend, he is mad at his mother and father for not telling him where she is. As he turns 12 he starts dreaming of strange voices. Palpatine visits his dreams as Darth Vader and convinces him that his parents and uncle are about to harm him. That Rey is dead. Luke, Leia and Han are unaware that Ben is slowly being brainwashed.

Luke finds out and gets a vision of Ben’s faith (Him killing Han). He sees the destruction about to come and tries to kill Ben in his sleep. But it backfires, and Luke confirms to Ben that “dream Vader” is right. He joins the dark side.

Rey is a scavenger, she doesn’t remember much before age 8.

Finn finds Rey, episode 7 is mostly the same.

Ben is now Kylo Ren. He wants to destroy his family, to see a prospering dark side. He doesn’t know about Palpatine, he still thinks he is talking to Vader.

Slowly he starts sensing Rey. He wants to find her, for both himself and his grandfather (who is actually Palpatine manipulating his own image).

Rey finds Leia and Luke, she asks them to give her the truth about her past. They refuse because they are afraid of waking up the worst in her.

Luke agrees to train her, completing the circle. Obi Wan agreed to train the blood of his enemy, so must Luke.

Rey is still confused about her heritage. She meets Kylo, they fight, they are equally strong. He loves her, he has since they were children. She has no idea who he is and can’t remember. She wants him dead but feels a strong connection to him. He doesn’t kill her even though he could, it makes her trust him more.

Luke is concerned about Rey showing more and more of her dark side, the same she showed as a child. Rey is more and more conflicted about what side she belongs to. She wants to save Kylo Ren and bring forth Ben again. But she doesn’t want to kill Palpatine, he is her only connection to her past.

Luke faces Kylo Ren, and tries to mend their family wounds. Kylo doesn’t trust him, and fights Luke. Just as he is about to kill him, Han throws himself at the lightsaber, giving his life to save Luke. It sends Kylo into a deep spiral of despair and anger. He didn’t want his father dead, he wanted his uncle dead.

Rey feels that Kylo is beyond redemption now, and has decided to kill him. Luke changes her mind, if Obi Wan hadn’t given up on his father, he could have saved him. He and Leia urge Rey to try to save Ben, they have tried and failed. Love saved Darth Vader, perhaps it kan save Kylo/Ben.

Kylo finds out that Palpatine is behind his visions and that he has been using his grandfather as a means to destroy the Skywalkers while putting a Palpatine by blood in power, Rey. Kylo tries to kill Palpatine, fails and gets caught.

Rey senses where he is, goes to find him and free him. Luke and Leia finally tell her the truth. She is not happy, she feels all alone. Everyone has been lying to her. Confused and hurt she faces Palpatine, and he drains her of energy. He needed his own blood to finish his transformation. Kylo frees himself upon seeing Rey dying on the floor, and kisses her while sharing force with her. She awakens from the brink of death. They kiss again.

Both are weakened, but know that they have a very small window of opportunity before he is too powerful to overthrow.

Luke and Leia show up with Finn and Poe. They fight Palpatine’s minions, Luke faces off with Palpatine. Luke kills him, with the same silent force his father once used.

The day is saved.

Luke embraces his role as Jedi, and starts training young Jedi again

Leia starts rebuilding her relationship with her son

Rey and Ben are married, in the same garden they played in as children.
